Greetings from Scotland! Having left Macedonia a few days ago, Yiping and I have already cruised around in this lush and jagged countryside of Scotland for a duration of time. Oh, the wonderful food! The incomparable horizons of the Scottish Highlands! The dip and dunks of the valleys and lakes that rise up to concord a jewel unique to the country! And the concoction of the rich culture, pragmatic people, and luxurious buildings! I have never yet enjoyed a place as such on a wholly basis. Today, we went to one of the most prominent standing figures in history: the Edinburgh Castle. Standing imperiously atop a hill, the structure upholds the title of being Scotland’s national heritage and one of the most crucial strongholds in history. It was involved in many historical conflicts, from the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century to the Jacobite Rising of 1745. It further served as a royal residence of the Scottish monarchs. As we roved around the historical architecture, we couldn’t help noticing the rich furniture that adorned the castles and generations’ worth of valuables such as the king’s throne and the royalty’s crown jewels. Notable factors of the Edinburgh Castle further include the Royal Palace, One O’Clock Gun, Half Moon Battery, and the Prisons of War. Touring around these fascinating assets of the Medieval Age was definitely worth the blooming blisters around my feet. As history denotes it by “the most besieged place in Great Britain and one of the most attacked in the world”, the Edinburgh Castle was truly one of the most memorable experiences of the trip most of us couldn’t experience in ten lifetimes.

I just can't get enough of the sublime scenery of these medieval castles! Is this castle open for tourists, or does the royal family still live there? Does Scotland still have a royal family?
ReplyDeleteYes, the compound is open to tourists run on a scheduled order. It had served as a sole military compound since the royals left the residence in the 17th century. And no, there has been no existence of royalty in Scotland since its last monarch a few centuries ago. The country currently runs on parliamentary procedures!

DeleteWow, you sure described your blisters positively! Also, why did you say that we couldn't experience the Edinburgh Castle with ten lifetimes? Are you looking from a peasant's perspective? I'm sure you could experience anything with 10 whole lifetimes.
